Would a feature like sending the current GPS coordinates of the
smartphone/tablet/etc. be a good idea? A menu item in the UI could be
available to a Rattlegram/Ribbit user to let them instantly transmit
location information immediately. Example scenario : a hiker gets injured
in the middle of a dense forest, and he/she is unable to move as much due
to injury & doesn't know exactly where they are in the forest, but they can
still manage to use his/her portable radio transceivers & their smartphone.
The Ribbit app on the smartphone could send location data very instantly by
accessing the phone's GPS, and a dedicated menu item or whatever could do
all this without the Ribbit user manually typing in latitude, longitude,
and/or other location data character-by-character, which would definitely
take more than one second. Also, the possibility of typing in typographical
errors is eliminated because the Ribbit app will send the location data
directly obtained from the GPS , and the rescue team will be better able to
get to that hiker due to high accuracy of GPS info. An issue with this
location-based feature is privacy. This GPS reporting should have a setting
to turn it on or off through the settings menu. Of course, the hiker can
relay their location information via voice communication, but the
text-based option would just take about a second to send.
