I sure wish I could hire Tilak as a summer intern for ORI. He's capable,
hardworking, and motivated.
He is looking for an internship for this coming summer. He's a master's
degree student at Northeastern University.
>From Slack, Tilak writes, "Anyone here with leads for a summer internship
in Wireless/Networks disciplines? I am an international graduate student
with prior work experience and now based in Boston, targeting to work in
PHY & Networking layers. Would be grateful for any leads in this regard!
Thank you!"
Paid internships are strongly preferred over unpaid internships.
I'm happy to recommend him to get broader work experience. His
contributions to ORI have ranged from authentication and authorization
development on Opulent Voice to Neptune IFFT and latency improvements. I'm
happy to write a letter of recommendation for him, if needed.
I sure wish we had a formal, rather than an informal, internship program. I
think we'd do a great job. Proposals to GSOC, ARDC, and ARRL were all
rejected, but IEEE and several universities in California are interested
and that process is moving forward. This collaboration won't get pulled
together in time to help ORI volunteers like Tilak, but we will continue to
quietly and successfully broaden our footprint in terms of professional
development through innovative open source work in 2024.
If you'd like to help develop our internship efforts, please get in touch.
We currently have one formal internship, a high school student committed to
80 hours over the next six weeks or so. We can easily take on more. I've
reached out again to the ARRL educational department, but they seem to be
focused on teachers. They have been very supportive with materials.
Looking forward to hearing from the collective wisdom in our community,
-Michelle Thompson
