We successfully concluded five days of intense training in MATLAB and
Simulink from Mathworks today with a half-day session of remote hardware
operation. Topics in the closing session included a detailed exploration of
several complex software-defined radio models and a walk-through of how to
deploy a stand-alone system.
If you want to review the curriculum of HDL Coder for Software Defined
Radio, you can find it on the campaign/registration page here:

Thank you to all who attended! There were many people involved in making
this training available, from the original pre-COVID intention (in-person
from Xilinx) to the final webex session (virtual class from Mathworks).
We deeply appreciate our instructor Prerak Pradhan of Mathworks and his
teaching assistant Jeff, the training support team at Mathworks, Commit
Change customer support, the board of directors at Open Research Institute,
and all of you reading this update.
Special thanks to Robin Getz, who was available today to answer questions
and provide valuable guidance for ORI's Remote FPGA Labs. We'll be making
some changes that will improve the performance of this unique community
asset.
We will be putting all of this training to use in at least two ways.
First, to improve our ability to publish open source FPGA designs. Most, if
not all, of these designs will operate in the amateur radio and amateur
satellite radio services.
Second, to better explain the modern digital communications design process.
Being able to explain and demonstrate advanced wireless designs, made
available to the general public for free, is a rising tide that lifts many
boats.
We'll be sending out swag next week!
Want to see more classes like this in the future? Let us know at
hello at openresearch.institute.
We are looking for funding, volunteers, publicity, and topic priorities.
