That depends on what the overall idea is. According to the datasheets, the default sync word on an SX127x is 0x12 and 0x1424 on an SX126x (basically 0x12 when considering the high bits). Then there are sync words 0x34 (SX127x) and 0x3444 (SX126x) which are stated to be used with LoRaWAN networks. So it depends on whether the balloon in question is supposed to use LoRaWAN networks for tracking, or it is to be tracked by a private network of receivers, say people in here. Then the simplest solution is to use the default sync words. Or use the LoRaWAN sync words, inform the private receivers the sync word is 0x34/0x3444, and have the balloon tracked by both.
