May not have had that title, but AMSAT-NA has definitely paid people to
spend the bulk of their time trying to raise money in the past.  But
even in the pre-9/11 era, it was hard raising money for research
activities that aren't university affiliated.  Not my idea of fun, so I
haven't thought about it much recently.

And, yes, on the rest, I'm talking only about process.  I'm unlikely to
work again on anything where the content (product) is anything other
than 100% open.
